Selection trials for Masters Hockey World Cup
The Sri Lanka Masters Hockey Association (SLMHA) will conduct an Open Selection Trial to pick players for the upcoming Masters Hockey World Cup 2020 to be held in England and South Africa.
The selection trials will be conducted today from 9.00am to 11.30am at the Astro Turf in Reid Avenue, Colombo. The SLMHA expects all players to attend for selections.
“We, Sri Lanka Masters Hockey Association, are the officially appointed organisation in Sri Lanka that is registered with the World Masters Hockey (WMH). We are hoping to field teams in all age groups at the upcoming Masters Hockey World Cup, which will be the second time Sri Lanka taking part in the world event,” stated Duncan Devendra, the secretary of SLMHA.
The Masters Hockey World Cup 2020 will be held under five different age categories, where two segments are scheduled in England and the remaining three in South Africa. The two age group segments to be held in England are Over-35 and Over-40, while the Over-45, Over-50 and Over-60 segments will be held in South Africa.
“We look forward to gather all former national players, current club players affiliated to their respective District Associations and Mercantile players for which the selections will be conducted. The requirements are – Over-35 born on or before December 31, 1985, Over-40 born on or before December 31, 1980, Over-45 born on or before December 31, 1975 Over-50 born on or before December 31, 1970 and Over-55 born on or before December 31, 1965. Players could attend trials according to their respective age groups. For any further inquiries they could contact the SLMHA Secretariat,” Devendra added.
This will be the second world cup event for the Sri Lanka Masters Hockey team, who initially participated in the Masters World Cup 2018 in Spain.
