No decision had been taken to postpone this year’s GCE Advanced Level Examination, Education Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said at a media briefing held this Wednesday.

The minister said students sitting for the 2020 GCE A/Level examination had faced two unfortunate situations which severely affected their education within one year.

One was last year’s Easter Sunday terrorist attacks which crippled education activities by about three months. Minister Alahapperuma said the emotional impact the attacks had on students cannot be measured in months either.

Once again these students have to face a similar delay in education activities because of the COVID-19 outbreak, he added.

“As such, the Government will not take any hasty decision that negatively affects students. We will hold detailed discussions on this before taking any decision. As of now, we have not taken any decision to postpone the A/Level exam,” he said.

No decision had been taken to postpone this year’s Grade five Scholarship examination either, said the minister.
