Northshore Campus held its first Board of Governors meeting on the 03rd of March to exchange views and discuss its highly ambitious plans for the future to be a top ranked higher educational institute in the country for graduate employability, academic and research excellence.

Its dynamic Board of Governors, headed by VC and CEO Prof. Nalaka Jayakody, included distinguished and eminent personalities such as Mr. Anuradha Wijekoon, Prof Ajantha Dharmasiri, Dr. Dan Malika Gunasekera, Dr. Anil Samaranayake, Dr. Kishu Gomes, Dr. Indika Sigera, and Deputy VC Prof. Sisuru Sendanayake.

It was also discussed and finalized that Northshore Campus, among many other initiatives in the pipeline this year, will be investing LKR 300 million to upgrade and elevate its Health Sciences, Engineering and IT laboratories to include the very latest, state-of-the-art equipment to ensure a stimulating environment to all students.

Mr. Anuradha Wijekoon is a professionally qualified senior administrative officer with over 27 years of progressive careers in various government institutions. With proven experience in improving organizational performance, Mr. Wijekoon has held key positions in universities, councils, ministries and other organizations, including General Sir John Kotalawala Defense University (KDU), National Institute of Education (NIE), and Ministry of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure. He served as the Director General of Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka and Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition of Parliament in 2015. Mr. Wijekoon is also a consultant and trainer to many departments and authorities both state and private.

Prof. Ajantha Dharmasiri is the Director and the Chairman of the Board of the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He also serves as an adjunct professor in International HRM at the Price College of Business, University of Oklahoma, USA. Prof. Dharmasiri also serves in the Board of NIBM and Softlogic Holdings PLC. He is the Immediate Past President of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM).

He is a Commonwealth AMDISA Doctoral Fellow and Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow, and has a PhD and an MBA from PIM and a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Moratuwa. He has won several awards, and holds memberships in several professional bodies.  He also functions as a certified Peer Reviewer of the South Asian Quality System (SAQS).

Dr. Dan Malika Gunasekera is a former Executive Director of Ceylon Shipping Corporation. He began his career as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 1996 and went onto specialize in Civil and Commercial Law. He has a Master’s degree in International Law from University of Utrecht, Netherlands and a PhD in International Commercial Maritime Law from University of Hamburg, Germany, both with ‘honours cum laude’.

Dr. Gunasekera is a Legal Counsel and runs his own practice, DANMAR. He is the Moderator of the National Maritime and Logistics Policy under Ministry of Ports and Shipping, Sri Lanka. He was also Dean of the Faculty of Management, Humanities and Social Sciences at CINEC Campus, and has served as a lecturer and supervisor in LLB and LLM programmes in universities both at home and abroad.

Dr. Anil Samaranayake is a Senior Medical Administrator and a Public Health Specialist with decades of professional experience. Having initiated clinical practice in 1994, he serves as a Consultant Community Physician and International Certified Addiction Counselor.

He is involved with the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB) since 2004. Dr. Samaranayake holds a MBBS in Medicine and Surgery, MSc in Community Medicine and Doctor of Medicine (M.D), all from the University of Colombo where he was also a visiting lecturer and an academic supervisor. He has also earned Post-Doctoral qualifications from the University of Melbourne, Australia, Boston University- USA and Uppsala University- Sweden. With interest in other disciplines, Dr. Samaranayake has an MA in Mass Communication from University of Sri Jayewardenepura and currently holds the post of Director- Health Information in the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Kishu Gomes is a popular corporate leader with over 30 years of experience primarily in the beverage and energy sector with globally renowned brands such as Coca-Cola, Chevron, and Caltex. He was a Past President of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM). With hands-on exposure on various local and international projects, Dr. Gomes has made a significant contribution towards Sri Lanka’s economic and social progress. In 2017, he was appointed to an Expert Committee to formulate the country’s ‘National Sustainable Development Vision and Strategy – 2030’.

He is also ambitious in uplifting the quality of higher education in the country, and serves on the Advisory Board for SLIIT Business Faculty, CSBM, and CINEC Campus. Dr. Gomes holds an MBA from the University of Leicester and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK.

Dr. Indika Sigera brings a wealth of expertise in port management, shipping and logistics.

He served as a Tanker Charterer and Assistant Manager at Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Sri Lanka, and later moved into academics and went onto become a senior lecturer at the Department of Transport and Logistics Management of the University of Moratuwa. He has chaired the Education and Accreditation Sub-Committee since 2012 and served as Chairman of Sri Lanka Association of Australia Award Alumni. Dr. Sigera has an MSc in Port Management from World Maritime University and a Doctoral degree from Australian Maritime College, Tasmania. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics and Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

Northshore Campus provides various programmes such as HNDs, undergraduate and postgraduate in the fields of Engineering, Business Management and IT, with its partnership with the University of the West of England (UWE) Bristol in UK and Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). Streams such as Tourism and Hospitality, Linguistics, Teacher Training and Education, LLB and Health Sciences are set to launch in near future.
