Fox Hill Super Cross 2020 postponed indefinitely
The Sri Lanka Military Academy of Diyatalawa has decided to put off the 28th Fox Hill Supercross 2020 indefinitely with the outbreak of Coronavirus reaching more Sri Lankans.
The event was scheduled for April 18 and 19 at the Fox Hill track in Diyatalawa with Sri Lanka Automobile Association (SLAA) and Sri Lanka Motorcycle Federation (SLMF) joining hands with the Military Academy to host the event for the 28th occasion.
But the three entities have finally decided to take a final decision and the Commander of the Military Academy, Brigadier A.K.J.K.U. Gunaratne confirmed that the decision. Brigadier Gunaratne however did not indicate of a possible reschedule date in the near future.
He revealed that the decision was taken after consultation with senior army officers and the two organising arms, as the situation of the country or the world are not turning out to be suitable for sporting events.
“After the Coronavirus pandemic settles down, we hope to fix a new date to host the Fox Hill Supercross as the first Super-cross event this year. Until we get full and clear instructions from the relevant authorities, we have decided to simply treat the current situation of the country as priority,” Brigadier Gunaratne stated.
Earlier the Sri Lanka Automobile Association and Sri Lanka Motorcycle Federation stated that they are unable to make a final decision of holding or postponing the competition until the Military Academy of Diyatalawa makes a final call.
In 2019, the 27th Fox Hill Super Cross 2019 was suddenly halted due to the Easter Sunday attacks. The event was in progress and 17 out of the 24 races had already been concluded when the organisers finally made a call-off. As race events were insufficient, the awards for the Best Driver and the Best Rider were not presented.
