Shabeeb and Shareeque claim double titles
Under-13 Girls Singles champion - Aila Harris
Shabeeb Hassen (Trinity Kandy), Shareeque Ahamed (Matale International School), Aila Harris (Hillwood Kandy) and Supulma Bandaranayake (Matale International School) walked away with tennis singles crowns at the second Matale Open Tennis Tournament 2020 for boys and girls concluded at Matale District Tennis Club courts last Sunday.
In the boys competition Shabeeb Hassen and Shareeque Ahamed had the honour of winning a double each. Shabeeb beat Nisal Damsara (Christ Church Matale) 7-1 in the Under-13 Singles final and then went on to defeat Udith Induwara (St. Thomas’, Matale) in the Under-15 Singles final.
Shareeque Ahamed annexed both Under-17 and Under-19 Singles titles by defeating his schoolmate Zumri Razmi in the two respective finals.
Aila Harris was the winner in the Girls Under-13 Singles final. She beat Thedara Munasinghe (MIS) 7-5 while Supulma Bandaranayake outplayed Janoli Dilmini (MIS) in the final to annex the Under-15 Girls Singles title.
The Boys Under-19 Doubles event was won by Chamod Samaraweera and Sandil Rathnayake of St. Thomas’ College, Matale they beat Sharique Ahamed and Zumri Razmi of MIS 7-5 in the final. Harsha Gihantha Chandrasiri officiated as the tournament referee as well as SLTA representative.
