Tips from NCHS on Staying safe as Global coronavirus cases exceed two million
View(s):Global restrictions have been put in place to curb the rise of COVID- 19. As governments do their part, it is essential that all citizens rise to the occasion and do our part as well. While we all have heard of the importance of wearing masks, washing hands and not touching our faces, Nawaloka College brings you a few more tips to stay safe.
Disinfect surfaces
It is prudent to disinfect all surfaces that come into contact with people. Using a disinfectant such as Dettol, regularly clean surfaces like tables, door handles, keyboards, light switches and remote controls.
Home deliveries
We are all forced to depend on home delivery as going out has become impossible. From the ‘choon paan trishaw to the vegetable trucks we are now entirely dependent on home deliveries for survival! However, this is not without its risks. To limit the danger of a delivery person potentially passing on the infection, ask them to leave the goods on your doorstep. Choose e-payments over cash. If you must meet the delivery worker, keep a One-meter distance.
At home, when possible, disinfect the delivered items with disinfectants.
Having visitors
Avoid having guests. This includes your neighbors! In the event that meeting them is essential, maintain distance and avoid all physical contact.
Respiratory hygiene
Following high standards of respiratory hygiene is essential in keeping safe. Cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or a disposable tissue when coughing or sneezing. Dispose of the used tissues immediately, and sanitize your hands.
Online education
In order to continue the education in Sri Lanka without hitches, Nawaloka College has successfully launched its e-learning platform. Students are given access to a hassle-free portal through which classes are conducted and no delays to the existing time table occur.

“Our students have been responding very well to online learning. We are pleased to report that studies continue without delay and students are occupied during the current pandemic” a member of the academic staff stated.
“The online classes have been a new experience for me. It is easy to concentrate and understand the lessons in the sessions” Aadhil Rimsan stated on behalf of the students. Aadhil explained that the students look forward to the lectures and that it is a highlight in their day.
