With the outbreak of Coronavirus being declared a Pandemic by the World Health Organization, people worldwide are facing a major challenge.

“We are in a state of emergency and must react with different ways of teaching our students” says Mr. Malith Kumarasinghe – Coordinating Principal Wycherley International School – Gampaha.

“I’m keen on keeping the doors to learning open as Children need to always be on track. A long break from studies will make kids forget what they have been learning, as this break has come in between an Academic year.”

“However, COVID-19 has made us review our academic tools and geared my academic staff to better project their subjects to the students through these online teaching methods.

Most children are now technologically advanced and prepared for online teaching platforms.

My team is constantly up to date by reviewing new online teaching resources with Cambridge International Examinations which has introduced many online programmes for teachers in the past few weeks. We have shared valuable resources on our school social media platforms for Teachers, Parents and Students to be updated with global trends.”

Mr. Kumarasinghe also added that these tools are also considered as an advantage of following an Internationally recognized Curriculum by Wycherley. Their expertise and diverse training programmes in forms of webinars has enabled my team and I, to put together this online teaching platform for the students of Wycherley International School – Gampaha.

The online teaching pathway for Students of Wycherley International School Gampaha was introduced from 20th April 2020. This was the scheduled day to commence school for the 3rd Term after the New Year holidays. All students from Grade 6 upwards joined this online teaching platform which can be accessed from their Computers or from their mobile phones.

Students were given a daily online time table which was rolled out to all students and they need to login to their allocated classes on a daily basis from 7.30 am – 1.30pm from Monday – Friday.

A few students from school shared their feedback with us in commending the efforts from the school to give them a smooth transition during this sudden pandemic time in the world.

Dimagee Saputhanthri a student from Grade 10 says we are actually looking forward to the online sessions that the teachers have planned for us.  “Their efforts are highly valued, and we are infinitely grateful for their time and efforts rendered to us throughout. I really enjoy the sessions.

“We live in a time of very trying circumstances, where we can’t even go out for a breath of fresh air. Amidst this turmoil, our teachers stepped up to keep our education going online.

The teachers reached out to us, letting us know that we can contact them at anytime for clearing ambiguities, and keeping our knowledge in check by means of various online assessments.

Timely reviews and friendly approaches helped us feel as close to school as possible. We appreciate every minute you put in for us! Says Navodi Vinothan- Grade 10
