“Showcase your creation of a Vesak Lantern”
Wycherley International School organized another online event, to keep children occupied and also to showcase their talents and creativity during their extended stay at home. Keeping in mind that children need new ideas to keep them occupied, especially during this lock down, the school decided to conduct this event for any child between the age group of 9 to 14 years to provide them an opportunity to showcase their talent. This event was promoted on all social media platforms of the school and Children from all over the country took part in this event creating Vesak Lanterns on their own from any material available at home.
This year, unlike other times, people are unable to step out of home due to the Covid – 19 outbreak in the country. The Vesak Festival which was celebrated on 7 and 8 of Maywas mainly celebrated at homes and with only the family.
As people were unable to drive through the city and take a glimpse of the beauty of the Vesak festival we, at Wycherley decided to showcase the creativity of kids through this event which was shared and posted on all social media platforms, for everyoneto see the beauty of Vesak, from the comfort of their homes.
Vesak is one of the main events in the Sri Lankan Buddhist Calendar. Vesak is considered as both a religious and cultural festival in Sri Lanka. The weeklong celebration gives people a unique opportunity to discover Sri Lanka’s religious and cultural traditions.
Mr. P Saravanan – Director of Wycherley International School commented that “Bringing the spirit of Vesak to your home during this time of lockdown, was another initiative by the School to keep children active and engaged and also to inculcate the culture and traditions of the country in young children”.
“We saw children from many parts of the island sharing pictures of their Lanterns. The school also encouraged kids by sharing a few tips on how to make simple Vesak Lanterns at homefor them to watch and create their ownmasterpiece”.
Wycherley International School strongly believes in Tradition and inculcating Sri Lankan Culture. The School has students from multi religious backgrounds and Wycherley also has all four main religions being taught in its curriculum.
