EU invites children to explore a life in colour
View(s):Understanding that children are living in a whole new reality and trying to comprehend these strange times, the European Union Delegation in Sri Lanka and the Maldives has launched an art competition for young artists from both countries.
The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic has caused prolonged school closure and social distancing leaving children confined to their homes. Art is a creative activity that allows children to express their emotions in a safe and healthy way.
Titled ‘Life in Colour’, the competition invites children aged 15 and below to submit their drawings or paintings reflecting their feelings and impressions about their experience of this time.
“Helping the community is at the very core of our activities, and we are pleased to announce the ‘Life in Colour’ Art Competition” said Frank Hess, the Delegation’s Head of Cooperation, adding “We understand how difficult the past few weeks have been and how challenging the weeks ahead will be for children and their families. During these uncertain times, we hope to inject some joy and positivity into the lives of children and their new routines. Art is a symbolic language and we believe that this competition will help them and encourage all budding young artists to get involved.”
Entry to the competition is simple. Children 15 years or younger can participate in this contest. However, only one entry per person is permitted. Once the painting or drawing is complete, a photograph of the artwork should be emailed to euinsrilanka@gmail.com, before 25th May 2020. The size of the photograph should be a maximum of 25MB, and the email should include the child’s name, age, and contact details.
One winner will be selected in each of the following age categories: up to 6 years, 7-11 years, 12-15 years. Exciting prizes of art supplies will be awarded to the winners. All shortlisted entries will be posted on the EU Delegation Facebook Page: http://www.sundaytimes.lk/200510/ Further details are on the Facebook Page and EU Delegation in Sri Lanka and the Maldives website: http://www.sundaytimes.lk/200510/
