The Noise is on, but virtual of course!
Sound on- for the fourth consecutive year!
Despite the pandemic, the most anticipated project of the Rotaract Club of Colombo East (RACCE); Noise 2020 is back again with a lot more adventurous entertainers to create an unforgettable statement.
“The curfew times have been very tough for all of us, but we decided to make these tough moments memorable by bringing Noise 2020 to the doorstep of our audience,” said Directress Finance of RACCE and the Chairperson of Noise 2020, Rotaracter Shenelle Abeysekara.
‘Noise 2020’ will be held on May 29 from 6 p.m onwards. “Although all the plans were made to make Unplugged and Finals the real deal for our participants and audience, owing to the pandemic we had to adapt to the first ever Virtual Noise,” she said.
NOISE 2020 will have solo and group performers in the categories of Solo Singing, Group singing and Beatboxing.
“Given the situation of our country we are left with no choice but to drop the band category at the finals due to the inconvenience faced by participants when performing online especially with instruments and the need for extreme sound balance,” added Shenelle.
The first stage of Noise 2020 – the auditions took place on February 21 at Sooriya Village with over 75 participants, the highest they have ever had over the years, Shenelle said.
The Noise Unplugged (2nd stage) was held on May 15 where the solo and group category semi-finalists battled for their spot in the finals.
The judging panel of the two stages, consisted of Shenal Mahendra, Minura Halwathura, Lakshan Wijesooriya, Nishantha Warnakulasuriya, Julius Mitchell and Ryan Henderling.
In the finals are Sajana Warakagoda, Rheya Panditharatne, Cheneliza Wickramatilake, Osanda Wijekoon and Punthara Wijewickrama in the Solo category, with Voiced Out and W&G making it in the Group Category and Ahamed Rifdhan, Allister Abeywardena and Pradeesh Paheerathan vying for the top spot in Beatboxing
“Noise is the signature finance initiative of RACCE, a project which was initiated four years ago. The committee had planned Noise Unplugged and the Noise Finalé, picturing a great outdoor session for all to enjoy in April,” President of RACCE, Kasun Ranathunga said explaining how the committee was quick to adapt the phases to a virtual platform, ensuring the safety of all. “Noise Unplugged concluded successfully a few days ago and we are looking forward to completing the Noise Finalè on a grand scale,” added Kasun.
The committee comprises Ramath Rubera, Shehan Madawa, Shehani Aluwihare, Shenaal Chandiram, Dehan Godallage, Shivani Perera, Kithmi Mindula, Asel Karannagoda, Samaka Samarasinghe, Anuja Chirath, Diyon Jackson, Fahad Ajireen, Husail Hameed, Imadu Edirisooriya, Isuru Wijeratne, Joel George, Kithmin De Silva, Michelle Jackson and Mudriq Ahamed.
