CP schools to form health committees
View(s):Central Province schools have been instructed to form health committees to maintain cleanliness and high health standards when they reopen.
Education Ministry Secretary N.H.M. Chitrananda told a conference of CP educational officials that together with school authorities, they should take the initiative to sanitise and clean up school premises before reopening the schools that were closed in March with the detection of the first Sri Lankan Covid-19 victim.
Among those who attended the conference, the eighth such gathering arranged by the ministry, were education directors, zonal officers and principals.
“When schools resume academic activities, health committees should be set up to look into the health needs of the school and ensure the safety of the students and the staff,” Mr. Chitrananda said.
The Secretary emphasised that the process should be started before reopening and continue it thereafter.
Explaining the importance of maintaining social distancing, he said class teachers should follow the guidelines on the number of children in a classroom.
The secretary said teachers should also take measures to clear the backlog of missed lessons.The ministry’s specialist medical consultant, Dr. Surangani Fernando, told the meeting that under no circumstances, the health guidelines should be neglected or downgraded as the pandemic had not ended.
Central Province Governor Lalith B. Gamage also addressed the conference.
