The Road Development Authority (RDA) has called bids for six road rehabilitation packages funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The projects are all part of the Integrated Road Investment Programme for which the ADB has already passed funds and which has been continuing for the past few years. Called iRoad for short, it aims to improve connectivity between rural communities and economic centres by improving transport on selected national, provincial and local roads.

Around 3,750km of rural roads in the Eastern, Northern, Western and Uva provinces are to be improved, rehabilitated and maintained for three years through civil works contracts. The RDA is the implementing agency.

The tenders were advertised under the National Competitive Bidding category which facilitates participation of local construction contractors. However, the terms say that bidding is open to parties from eligible source countries of the ADB. The roads in this particular tender are all in the North Central Province.

The rehabilitation includes asphalt concreting, drainage construction and improvements and fixing culverts. A single bidder will receive only one package.
