‘With a Little Help from Our Friends’ is a collective of 50 plus (and growing), Sri Lankan artistes from around the world, who are collaborating to support fellow artistes in need, while spreading healing and positivity with the help of their music, for everyone in need of a virtual hug at this time.
They will play for 24 hours at a stretch, and you can join their stream at any point during the gig, from wherever you’re in the world.
Covid-19 has turned our lives upside down and made us stay in our homes isolated from one another for the foreseeable future. Nevertheless, it has been heartwarming to see people coming together from all corners of the world, virtually helping each other during this pandemic.
Many of us have turned to music to heal, for hope and as an escape during this pandemic, as we have done with any trauma or heartbreak throughout our lives. Now, we have the opportunity to give back to musicians who rely on creating and performing music as their profession and income, as full-time artistes.
Musicians have been hit hard without opportunities to find work during this pandemic lockdown, and will continue to experience this until gathering in crowds and live gigs will be a normal part of our lives again. Their work heavily depends on the return of tourism to the island as well.
So, they’re calling out for your help, and if you’re able to, donations during this virtual gig would be most appreciated, no matter what amount it may be, as any amount helps in this long road to economic recovery. All donations raised will be equally shared amongst full-time Sri Lankan artistes involved in the first edition, who are in need at this time.
Most of the artistes in this collective have come forward to perform at this gig with the intention of helping artistes who are more in need of financial assistance than others, as a sign of solidarity and comradery, instead of gaining any financial assistance themselves.
