No decision yet on Kandy perahera parading the streets
No decision had been taken yet on allowing people to line the streets and view the Kandy Esala perahera, which is scheduled to take place in July.
Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela said a decision about the perahera procession going around the temple square had not been taken either.
However, he said the perahera will take place from July 25 onwards within the Sri Dalada Maligawa complex.
The Diyawadana Nilame said a decision on allowing the public to watch the perahera, while practicing social distancing, will be taken after consulting the health authorities.
He also said he was not aware of tour operators advertising fixed seating arrangements online, at USD 10 per seat.
He said this should not be done yet, as no decision has been taken yet to hold the perahera outside the Sri Dalada Maligawa premises.
Right now the Sri Dalada Maligawa and its devala remain closed. A meeting is scheduled for June 2 at the Sri Dalada Maligawa’s auditorium to discuss how the temple and the four devala can be opened to allow devotees to worship, while following health guidelines.
