Only 35 students per class from next year onwards
View(s):Grade One in Government schools next year will see a maximum of 35 students per class compared to last year’s 36 students, according to Education Ministry guidelines.
Issuing the specimen application and guidelines this week, the Education Ministry requested parents planning to admit their children to Grade One next year to submit all documents addressed to school principals by July 15 via registered post.
Documents/additional documents to be forwarded in proof of residence, method of selection, documents required to be submitted to the first interview board, details of submission of appeals and objections, are mentioned in the guidelines and specimen application available in the Education Ministry’s website (www.moe.gov.lk).
Copies of all documents of qualifications relevant to the category applied should be certified by the applicant himself/herself and an affidavit in proof of documents forwarded have to reach the principal of the relevant school. A stamped envelope for registered post with the applicant’s name and address should be attached to the application.
“Thirty children will be selected for each parallel class in Grade One. In addition, five more children will be selected from among children of those who were in operation areas in armed forces and the police. The maximum number of students per class will be 35,” the Ministry guidelines said.
All qualifications should be met by June 30, this year. It is compulsory for an applicant to apply to minimum six schools in close proximity to his/her place of residence including a minimum of three provincial schools.
“In the process of admission of children to all Government schools, apart from the levy of facilities and service charges and the membership fee for school development societies, it is strictly prohibited to offer any other fees, donations or any goods or equipment to the school/organisations affiliated to the school. These offers should not be made even after the admission of children to schools,” the Ministry said.
