Alyssa: A musical tribute to a beloved pet
She was born to a three-legged rescue of mine named Cornflakes. Her sibling passed away immediately. She was born half blind with no life in her rear legs.
The vet gave her less than a week to live.
She fought for her life even as a tiny pup.
At first she learned to crawl, dragging her rear legs. Then she learned to hop like a bunny. Slowly with great difficulty she learned to walk.
From her first breath, to her last she fought for her life.
She grew up to be a beautiful, loyal, loving and fierce lady. Majestic as she was ferocious. Adorable as she was unique.
She lived for over a decade and passed away after a neutering mishap.
Her name is Alyssa Nakamichi.
While our brand new single is touching, moving and has become a powerful and evocative anthem in a very short span of time, the recently released Official Music Video is even more emotional.
The chorus goes:
You are my crown
The fire that abounds
You were the light shining through my darkest night

We decided to dedicate ‘Alyssa’ as an ode not just to her memory and legacy, but as a soulfelt tribute to ALL lost pets and lost loved furry and feathered friends that are no longer with us and have joined that great gig in the sky.
‘Alyssa’ was recorded at Evilcat Labs and @pearlbaymusic while it was brilliantly mixed and mastered by Grammy nominated Romesh Dodangoda, one of the foremost producers in the UK who has worked with the likes of Motörhead, Architects, Bullet for My Valentine, Bring Me The Horizon and Earthtone 9.
The concept of the video is very unique as we reached out via a communication campaign globally asking anyone who has ever lost a pet, to send us their photographs and video footage of their furry or feathery friends… And the response was overwhelming.
We received hundreds of images and clips. The music video comprises only pictures and videos of these beautiful, timeless creatures who are a part of our lives. That to us felt like the most sincere and perfect thing we could do to honour these magnificent souls.
We felt nothing like this has been done before and we wanted to immortalize their legacies and memories in song. And so what better way than to compose an anthem and conceive a video that is just for them? A music video that will evoke a strong emotional response, unravel your senses and coerce a few tears. It’s wonderful as it is heartbreaking.
I know I speak for Tenny, Thisara and Hafzel when I say it is one of our most satisfying musical compositions and fulfilling ventures that is now a cornerstone in our 20 year musical journey.
We received so many ‘thank yous’, messages, calls, mails and comments from around the world for creating and dedicating a song in honour of all our lost friends.
I can only say irrefutably that this is one of my proudest moments as a vocalist, songwriter, lyricist and an artist.
And yes, I WOULD TRADE PLACES WITH HER (ALYSSA) or any of my lost pets. Any day. Any time.
I know without qualm or doubt that many of you feel the same.
