RSC Scholarship awarded to CCS student for the second time
View(s):The College of Chemical Sciences (CCS) is proud to announce that this year’s Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Scholarship to conduct undergraduate research has been awarded to Ms. Pujani Usliyanage, a third-year undergraduate of CCS. This is the second time this competitive research bursary was secured by one of our students. Last year’s recipient was Ms. Lihini Jayasinghe, who is currently a fourth-year student of CCS.
Every year, the Royal Society of Chemistry offers two such scholarships for undergraduate students around the world to conduct a research project in the United Kingdom. This year’s recipient, Ms. Pujani Usliyanage, is a past pupil of Lyceum International School, Wattala, and has performed remarkably well in the Graduateship in Chemistry (GIC) program offered by the CCS. She holds several subject prizes for the most challenging courses offered in the GIC and is an aspiring young chemist.
Pujani has been selected to follow a project titled, ‘Enantioselective Chemistry within a chiral nano-reactor’ under the supervision of Professor Hagan Bayley, at the Department of Chemistry, University of Oxford.
The Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, established in 1971 as the successor to the Chemical Society of Ceylon, is a professional body responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of the profession of Chemistry in Sri Lanka. The GIC course is offered by the CCS, which is the educational arm of the Institute and is a four-year professional qualification, formally accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK. Students who have passed in three Science subjects, including Chemistry at the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination (Sri Lanka / UK), are deemed eligible to enroll for this Programme.
At CCS, we help guide inquisitive and talented minds to pursue the career of their dreams, be it in the Industry or Academia.
