Let us all enjoy the ‘Jeewithe’
Popular band ‘C Plus’ led by talented singer musician Chandumal Fernando, released their latest hit song ‘Jeewithe’(‘ජීවිතේ’)recently on YouTube.
‘Jeewithe’ is penned and melody created by Asanji Wickramasinghe, while music arrangements were created by Senaga Dissanayake of Wayo. Mixed and mastered by Vinod Melpitiya at Wayo Brickhouse. ‘Like everyone else, musicians too have to stay at home during this CoVID-19 pandemic period, without any work. But I didn’t want to waste my time idling. We used our free time to create some songs and we have released five singles on youtube. Actually some of the songs were created well ahead of corona locked down’ said Chandumal.
Their rock n’ roll hit ‘Bandala Kasade’ is also a popular song at weddings and other functions, while Chandumal’s latest hip hop song ‘Mayam Desa’ is a popular hit amongst young ones.
‘Chandumal and C Plus’ is one of the most ‘in demand’ bands when it comes to weddings, dances and other private and corporate functions. ‘C Plus covers all types of weddings with music ranging from classical to pop. Their umbrella covers Jazz and the blues, 70s and 80s and old country stuff.
‘We cater for everyone. Our repertoire includes 60s to 70s hits. We play all dance music and not forgetting Sri Lankan baila. We do rock as well for concerts, but are known mostly as a band that specialises in weddings. Our melodies reflect typical wedding splendour and that’s why we are in demand win the wedding circuit’ said the band leader Chandumal Fernando.
‘C Plus’ latest wedding song is ‘Nisala Wela’ sung by Chandumal is now catching up very fast amongst the crowds. Jazzy song ‘Mohothin mohotha’ created by musician Kumar de Silva is an instant hit with jazz lovers.
Though they do cover versions of Western Music, C Plus already have few original to their credit- ‘Kelle’, ‘Oba Ha Ya wela’, ‘Ahasin Pini wetila’ and ‘Mal Dunen’
‘As a band even though we do a lot of English songs, we understand the value of doing Sinhala songs as well. Then we can connect with the people. We have a plan to do one English original’ he added.
‘C Plus’ comprises Chandumal Fernando, Brenda Mendis -frontline female vocalist, Prasad Jayasuriya on percussion, Nushan Hettiarachchi on bass, Ajith Kodikara-on violin, flute and harmonica, Sanath Siriwardena on keyboards, Samudra Dewanarayana on guitar and Nadeesha Namal on drums.
