‘Voyage’ makes ripples at foreign seas
Veteran filmmaker Christy Shelton Fernando’s newest film ‘yathra’- The Voyage’ has won a number of awards at film festivals held over the last few months.
The film won the Best Film award in the Drama Category at the Festigious International Film Festival – Los Angeles in January, the Best Film in the Best Narrative Feature category at the Druk International Film Festival (DIFF) – Bhutan in January, Outstanding Achievement Award at the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival – India in February, the Best Camera award at the Eurasia International Film Festival – Moscow in February, the Best Film at the Tagore International Film Festival – India in March, the Best Film at the Madras Independent Film Festival – India and it won recognition as the finalist at the Kosice International Film Festival – Slovakia.
Ruoo Cinema Creation House and Sri Amara Films presents ‘Yathra’ film shot in Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Screenplay written by Aruna Jayawardana Sriyani Amarasena, the film star Sriyani Amarasena, Dineth De Silva, Saranga Disasekara, Senali Fonseka, Indika Madurage, Cleatus Mendis, Lakshman Mendis, Sriyantha Mendis, Kumudu Nishantha, Lilani Perera, Udari Perera, Roshan Pilapitiya, Paboda Sandeepani and Sandun Wijesiri. Co-produced by Sriyani Amarasena and Ruwan Jayasingha who also was the cinematographer, ‘Yathra’ is edited by Ayeshmantha Hettiarachchi and art director is Megha Kavinda Colombage.
Suneth Nandalal handled the makeup department, and Indika Udara Lanka did the makeup and
Somadasa Maldeniya is the production manager.
Christy has been working in the field of creative arts for over 30 years as a film maker, a TV director, a script writer, a dramatist, and a writer. He who entered the world of cinema in 1981 through the film ‘The Hunt (Dadayama)’ as its co-script writer and assistant director under veteran film maker Vasantha Obeysekara, has worked for about 10 years at the beginning of his career, as the assistant director of veterans such as Titus Thotatawatta, H.D. Premarathna, Malani Fonseka, Ananda Abeynayaka, Benet Rathnayaka and Bertram Nihal.
Graduated in Mass communication and journalism from the university of Sri Jayawardanapura Christy, has been working as an independent creative artiste involving in cinema and television. Award winning script writer of Vasantha Obeysekera’s film ‘Dadayama’, Christy has four feature films and a massive 30 teleserials and 11 one-act tele dramas, semi-feature films, documentary films, TV documentaries.
Many of his Films, TV dramas and documentaries have won awards at several award festivals local and international. Christy has studied theater and cinema in depth both locally and internationally.
