While many are the stories of communities in lockdown engaging in cooking experiments, for Samantha Muthumani it was an opportunity to team up with her mother to give outsiders a taste of her grandmother’s special lamprais recipe.

“People were fed up with eating home-cooked food because of the lockdown. My Grandmothers’ special lamprais recipe was something I admired.
My mother and I thought that it would be a great idea to deliver lamprais, then we started the business and there was a very good response. People loved it. My Grandmother’s middle name was ‘Lilly’, thereby we named it ‘Mrs. Lily’s Lamprais”, said Samantha.

Mrs. Lily’s Lamprais brings out the most delicious lamprais in town, with variations which include chicken and mixed meat. Other than Lamprais, they do serve a yummy Nasi Lemak, which you could choose from Chicken and Beef.

‘This Lamprais was a special one’, one would say. It is a yellow rice filled with flavour and consists of Chicken/Mixed Meat, frikkadels (Little minced meat balls), boiled egg, seeni sambol, brinjal moju and a blachang (dry prawn mixed sambol).

Nasi Lemak, a popular Malaysian dish it is packed with flavour. The rice is coconut tasting and equally milky. It is also a mixture of lemon grass and ginger. It reminds you of your very own traditional ‘milk rice’ but with a different twist to it.

It consists of a soft-cotton wooly Chicken/Beef, it is sweet and a little spicy. Totally different from the mandatory cooked chicken or beef. It includes spicy tempered sprats, cucumber and a boiled egg.

The Lamprai and Nasi Lemak is priced at Rs. 550 and the Beef Nasi Lemak is priced at Rs.600.

“It is all home cooked. Supervised by my mother. Devi, Suda and Danu are the three ladies who are a part of our production team. In terms of safety, I assure that all precautions are taken and that my helpers do not go home but stay with us. They don’t go out. The customer’s safety is our first priority”, added Samantha.

Mrs. Lily’s Lamprais are delivered in Colombo and Colombo Suburbs. It is available on Uber Eats, during weekdays and weekends.
