REGISTRATIONS NOW OPEN FOR SLMUN 2020 CONFERENCE

The first Model United Nations conference was held in 1949 in the United States of America. Over the years, MUN has evolved and become a key factor in gathering and educating youth about global issues in many countries. Established in 2008, SLMUN is the primary simulation of the United Nations conference in Sri Lanka, and is the pioneer of any MUN related program in the country.  It is also one of Asia’s largest student-run United Nations simulations with over 100 participating schools and 800+ delegates participating for the annual conference.

Registrations are now open for the 13th session of the Sri Lanka Model United Nations (SLMUN) scheduled to be held on September 12th and 13th. Considering the status quo around the globe, the theme for the upcoming conference is ‘A world in conflict’; aiming to unite today’s youth to stand up against mis-governance and injustice and creating a better future for all.

In order to adhere to health and safety guidelines in forcedue to the unprecedented situation globally, this year’s conference will be held virtually, paving the way for a more expansive international and local assemblage.

Many organisations have come forward to support organizing of this conference.  Hewlett Packard has offered an attractive scheme for delegates to purchase their own devices, while Dialog Axiata as the Telco Partner have stepped into resolve connectivity issues with an exclusive offer for SLMUN.

Gateway College, the only Microsoft Showcase School in Sri Lanka, has risen to the occasion to offer their expertise with the use of Microsoft tools, as the technology partner for the conference.

Recognising the contribution made by SLMUN to foster reconciliation and sustainable peace among students from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities, Sri Lanka’s National Commission of UNESCO has endorsed the 13th SLMUN session.
