The Scope Opens on July 10
View(s):Breaking almost four months long closure due to curfew and virtual lockdown of the country due to Covid-19 pandemic, the Scope cinema, one of the leading multiplexes mainly screening foreign movies will be opened from June 10.
The multiplex with six theatres will be opened with brand new latest American action drama ‘Mulan’, produced by Walt Disney Pictures, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. This live action adaption of Disney’s 1998 animated film is directed by Niki Caro and it stars Liu Yifei in the title role, together with Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li in other roles.
In addition the latest Sinhala film ‘The Newspaper’ co-directed by Sarath Kothalawala and Kumara Thirimadura, the first Sinhala movie to be released after Covid-19 closure will also be screened at the Scope cinemas, said Marketing and Productions Manager, Jayaratne Galagedara. He said that all necessary precautions have been taken for the safety of the patrons. In addition the theatre will also screen ‘Jumanji’, ‘Onward’, ‘Sonic’, ‘Blood shot’, and ‘Bad Boys.
The Scope CEO, Thushan Meemanage said that extra precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of the patrons. “We have gone one step ahead of the instruction given by the Health Ministry. We have decided to sanitise each theatre after every show,”.
Additionally the Scope has introduced a number of new payment methods in order to minimise the human interaction. “Once you make an online booking for a film, if you are a technically savvy person, we have introduced a gadget from which the reference number of the patron is scanned and seats is arranged. Patrons could walk into the cinema without getting tickets physically. But we have also following our normal system of walking to the counter and purchasing a ticket as well”.
“Also we have introduced kiosk machines where patrons can make a booking and even order food using a credit card. And only 50 percent of the cinema will be used mainly due to safety measures. But a couple, family or group who come together and order tickets will sit together”.
“We are using a system called dynamic seating plan where two vacant seats are arranged either side of the group and thereby the gap will be maintained.”
However due to lack of content for screening as a number of new releases have been postponed, the number of show times has been reduced.
