A section of the Galle Road between Kahawa and Thelwatte was closed for traffic due to strong waves reaching the road last evening, police said.

Kahawa, Pereliya, Godagama and Thelwatte were some of the areas that experienced the waves while a few vehicles were also damaged.

Police said some of the residents had even left their homes.
