Presidential Address and Awards Ceremony – 2020, Institute of Chemistry Ceylon
View(s):The Institute of Chemistry Ceylon held their 49th Annual session and 79th Anniversary celebrations on August 13th at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo 07, for 2020 successfully.
Prof. Chandrika N. Wijeyaratne, the Vice Chancellor of University of Colombo was the chief guest of the ceremony. President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, Prof. Priyani Paranagama delivered the presidential address on “Shaping Careers of Chemists through the Advancements of Chemical Technology.”
Ramakrishna Memorial Award was awarded for the first time to Dr. S. R. Gunatilake, a Senior Lecturer at the College of Chemical Sciences. He delivered a lecture on “From Biomass to Biochar: A Potential Means of Solid Waste Management of Sri Lanka”. Ms. E.A.C. Priyadarshani, Department of Chemistry, University of Sri Jayawardenapura was awarded the Kandiah Award for Applied Chemistry, Ms. T.C.T. Peris of College of Chemical Sciences was awarded the Kandiah Memorial Graduateship Award and Prof. M.U.S. Sulthanbawa Award for Research in Chemistry was awarded to Ms. A.A.D.T. Abeysinghe of University of Sri Jayawardenapura.
Finalists of All Island Chemistry Quiz Competition and of National Chemistry Olympiad Competition were awarded their prizes at the ceremony followed by the J. N. Olep Fernando Memorial Scholarship, other scholarships, awards and prizes for the Graduateship Examinations in Chemistry.
The Annual General Meeting – 2020 for corporate members was followed after the award ceremony, at the same venue.
