Tourism has been one of the main sectors hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. Most countries have closed their borders and Sri Lanka’s airports too continue to remain shut, except for special flights.

However, there are quite a few tourists still in the country. Some cannot leave because their countries have closed their borders and flights are not in operation. Others are staying here because they feel Sri Lanka, which has the pandemic relatively under control, is safer than their own countries right now.

The East coast continues to be a popular spot for tourists, especially surfers. In these photos, tourists can be seen making use of excellent surfing conditions at Pottuvil.

Seeing such content and happy faces could make us feel hopeful to see more tourists return to enjoy the many delights our country has to offer, once international borders re-open.
