The MBA program for customs officers in session
Horizon Campus has been training Government officials from Sri Lanka customs to develop their management leadership skills through a flexible MBA program targeted at their specific career needs.
The MBA program is designed to progressively lead the participants through a comprehensive course of study with specialization in strategic management that includes principles and practices within the broader context of public sector management.
With the program’s commitment to training customs personnel in perfecting vital leadership skills, this is one of few comprehensive MBA leadership development programs currently available in Sri Lanka, that is particularly focused on giving customs officials an overview of general and strategic management, which is suited to their respective industry, and is designed to help the participants progress quickly into high-level management roles in the organization. Within the program, participants are challenged to come up with creative solutions to real challenges within diverse groups, and are expected to take their own lead. The program also incorporates a research project on strategic management in the public sector.
Overall, the program gives an insight into every level of business operations and management aspects, allowing participants to see the workings of the industry as a whole and therefore manage it effectively. This 15-month weekend program has received UGC accreditation.
Learning and teaching methods, using relevant material, are varied and tailored; including lectures, self-assessment and leadership exercises. Horizon Campuses outstanding faculty, with real work experience, exposes participants to cutting-edge ideas and practices; allowing them to put their knowledge into practice from their first day in the program .
Terence Kahapola Arachchi, the Dean of the Faculty of Management of Horizon Campus stated that the program matches the needs of officials from the Public sectors including Government Ministries, Departments, Executive Agencies, and the international trading community.
Explaining further, he said “the need for leadership development has never been more urgent in the public sector. In today’s volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment, those in the public sector need leadership skills and organisational capabilities different from those that helped them succeed in the past.
Employees across the board in the public sector today are increasingly expected to make consequential decisions that align with corporate strategy and culture. It’s important, therefore, that they be equipped with the relevant management, relational, and communication skills. This is what we have been aiming to do through this specifically targeted MBA program for customs personnel.
Mr. Kahapola Arachchi stated that the team at Horizon Campus is fully geared to meet the need of designing customized programs for public sector industries to suite their relevant requirements and to provide skills development programs to develop competence and leadership acumen in their personnel.
