The Rotaract Club of Informatics Institute of Technology (RACIIT) is a Non- Profit Organisation that strives to give an opportunity for youth to develop as professionals, engaged in Community service activities and International service; all while having fun. During the Rotaract year 2019-2020 the club successfully completed over 90 projects. Due to the immense service rendered towards the community, the Rotaract Club of IIT was awarded as one of the most outstanding Rotaract Clubs amongst 70 other clubs in RID 3220 Sri Lanka and Maldives.
Our energetic Rotaractors focus their strength on numerous areas, including disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, basic education and literacy and economic and community development, where they strive to uplift the society through various community-based projects. Over the years the club has grown to set its mark by creating an impact amongst the community.
Along with the well known award winning projects such as project E-Mithudama and Hot Dog Showdown, the most highlighted projects for last year were Sally’s Manor, Trailblazer, Xitement, IGF and the list goes on.
Project E-mithudama is well known amongst the community for the immense impact it has on the underprivileged school students in rural areas who are deprived of IT knowledge.
We build Computer labs and provide the Infrastructure required, uplift the computer literacy by provision of the necessary e- resources to all the school children in the rural territories to enhance and broaden their knowledge on the profoundly advancing technology.
E -mithudama is carried out in partnership with Unilever ,Sri lanka and is an International award winning, sustainable project which has been carried out for three consecutive years.
Sally’s Manor is the Signature Club Service project of our club which comprises a horror house and a halloween DJ party .Sally’s manor is carried out every year to raise funds for our community service projects.
Striving for a Miracle is another successful community service project which is focused towards helping the community in rural areas by providing sanitary facilities.
South Asia’s largest Hotdog eating competition and one of Colombos biggest trending street food festivals – Hot dog showdown is the signature project of the club, that would never go unnoticed in the Colombo Event Calendar and Rotaract calendar. This event is held every year along the streets of green path filled with food stalls and many other fun filled activities, motor shows including celebrity appearances.
IGF is an E-sport gaming festival for all the young gamers of Sri Lanka to showcase their talents in E-gaming. This project marked a massive success this year as it was ranked as the 3rd Largest e-sports gaming festival of Sri Lanka.
Last year, the Rotaract District 3220 – Sri lanka and Maldives celebrated 50 years of strength and service. Unfortunately due to the COVID19 outbreak and the lockdown situation in Sri Lanka the celebration which was to be hosted by the Rotaract Club of IIT was beyond possible and as a new initiative we implemented a website in celebration of this historical event. www.50yearsofrotaractinsl.com
Given the situation of the country, this year was a challenging one but president Rtr. Pasan Ganewatte stated that “Anything’s possible if you put your heart and mind to it.” He said that the overall hardwork and dedication input by all the members is what brought the club to the exultant place it is today. Throughout the year the club was able to conduct a total number of 90 projects and the active participation of the members in both Rotaract, Interact and Rotary district projects resulted in giving the club recognition even in organizational bodies.
None of this would’ve been possible without the tremendous support received from the IIT management that helped us host events and to Ms. Gayashini Ratnayake, the lecturer in-charge of the Rotaract Club for always being supportive and their pillar of strength at all times. We would also like to thank all the sponsors who joined us in hand and helped us in executing the projects successfully.

Rtr.Pasan Ganewatta once said that, “As individuals, by the end of our Rotaract year, we are far from where we started and in fact we grew to be young leaders with passion and maturity”, the awards achieved for this year is just a mere display of where the Rotaract Club of IIT stands today whilst bringing forth young leaders that could lead us to a better tomorrow.
