Kusal Mendis strikes career best 200
A magnificent maiden double ton by skipper Kusal Mendis (200 in 300 balls) helped CCC record a first innings win over NCC in the Premier Tier A Super Eight inter-club cricket encounter concluded at P. Sara Stadium yesterday.
Mendis was in sublime form hitting 24 boundaries and a six in his marathon knock as CCC amassed 480 for six in response to NCC’s first innings score of 467. This means, CCC is assured of the league title despite the outcome of their final match against Chilaw Marians starting Wednesday.
Unbeaten on 80 at the end of day two, Mendis was associated in two fruitful partnerships – 181 for the fourth wicket with Lasith Abeyratne (104) and an unbroken 134-run stand for the seventh wicket with Lahiru Madusanka (63 not out).
Despite twin half tons by in-form Santhush Gunatileke, it did not prevent Chilaw Marians CC from gaining a comfortable first innings win against Colts CC in the match concluded at the SSC ground.
The final day’s play saw Chilaw Marians CC in reply to Colts CC’s 302 declaring on their overnight total of 399 for 9. Colts CC batting the second time were 227 for 5 at stumps.
Ragama CC recorded an easy first innings win over Army SC in the match concluded at the CCC ground. Army SC resuming from their overnight 93 for 6 were bowled out for 189 in reply to Ragama CC’s mammoth score of 501 for 9 declared.
Ragama CC batting the second time going in for quick runs lost wickets before making a declaration with the score on 126 for 8. Army SC were on 66 for 2 when the match was called off early, chasing a massive target of 439.
