New students have not been admitted to the National Colleges of Education (NCOE) for two years, Matale district MP and former Education Sector Committee Chairperson Rohini Kumari Kavirathna said recently.

“There was a delay in enrolling students to the education colleges. Students belonging to the 2018 and 2019 batches are still waiting to be enrolled,” she said.

She said the NCOE produce about 3,000 teachers a year. College teachers are considered to have the highest level of education and professional qualifications in Sri Lanka.

“The Government should immediately call for admission applications for students who have passed the Advanced Level Examinations in 2018 and 2019,” she said.
