More than 450 teachers from the East will be appointed as in-service education advisors to strengthen primary and secondary education, Eastern province (EP) Education Director M.T.A. Nizam said.

At present interviews are being conducted, and 466 teachers will be appointed as in-service advisors for 17 educational zones in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee districts, Mr Nizam said. Out of the 446 teachers, 370 teachers will be for the Tamil medium and 96 teachers will be for the Sinhala medium.

According to Mr Nizam, permission had been granted for the appointments by the Public Service Commission after education authorities reiterated the shortage of staff.

“In-service advisers are appointed to conduct model classes and make sure the latest teaching methods are implemented and schools are functioning smoothly. Once interviews are completed, immediate placements will take place,” he said. - Chris Kamalendran
