Old boys cricket match for Burah and Namiz memorial trophy
The Zahira College, Colombo 1986/89 Old Boys cricketers are organising a cricket match in memory of former sports stars T.F. Burah and M.M.K. Namiz who excelled in sports for school and club, at Maradana from 9.00am today. This match will be played for the Burah and Namiz Memorial Trophy.
Burah joined Zahira in 1983 after starting his academic career with St. Mary’s College, Kegalle. He excelled in cricket, rugby, soccer and athletics. He was a member of the Zahira first XV rugby team as a fly half/centre three quarter from 1984 to 1988. He was vice captain of the first XI cricket team in the 1986/87 season.
After leaving school he represented CH&FC for 15 years and a season with Havelocks. He was in the junior National squads and prematurely hung up his boots. He was also a talented actor performing in tele-dramas and films. He passed away on August 8, 2009 at the age of 42.
Mohamed Mifraz Kuraish Namiz started his early education in Trincomalee and Beruwela before joining Zahira. An outstanding sportsman, he represented Zahira in cricket, rugby, football and athletics leading them to win several titles.
