Grassroots Football Development gets underway after Covid-19 break
View(s):With the intention of restarting football activities among the youngsters, the Football Federation of
Sri Lanka (FFSL) kicked off its latest Grassroots Football Basic Training Course this week. The programme began on Thursday (24) at the Urban Council ground in Balangoda and will end today.
This programme is carried out for both boys and girls from ages of six to 19, with the objectives of improving the levels of football at schools in Balangoda, while also improving the football standards and increasing the popularity of football in Balangoda and its suburbs.
Over 100 schoolchildren keenly made their participation on each day. The final day, today, will take place in a carnival atmosphere, where over 300 children are expected to take part. In addition there also will be 30 trainers present to carry out this training programme throughout all four days under the guidance of Chaminda Steinwall, the Head of Grassroots Football Development at the FFSL.
This is the second Grassroots Development Training Programme taking place this year, as previous plans were forced to abandon due to the COVID-19 pandemic that brought the country to a near halt.
In addition, the Physical Training (PT) teachers from the schools in Balangoda are taking part in this programme with the intention of developing their skills and knowledge as both football and PT coaches.
