Three arrested over the killing of Hindu priest in Jaffna
Three people have been taken into custody over the killing of a Hindu priest in Pungudutheevu, Jaffna, police said.
The priest’s body with severe assault injuries was found yesterday morning in the Pungudutheevu Urativu Lord Shiva temple premises. Among the arrested are two priests and an assistant to the victim.
Jaffna’s DIG P.P.S.M. Senaratne said preliminary investigations revealed that a personal dispute among the group had led to the killing.
The deceased, identified as 33-year-old Ruben Sharma from Kilinochchi, was the chief priest of Pungudutheevu Urativu Lord Shiva temple.
Kayts Magistrate Anthonypillai Judeson visited the crime scene yesterday and the body was taken to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for an autopsy.
