A fitting theatrical analysis on modern education
A fitting theatrical analysis of modern education system, “Vikurthi”, produced by pioneering children’s playwright the late Somalatha Subasinghe will go on the boards at 3.30 pm and 6.45 pm on October 17 at the Elphinston Theatre Colombo. Vikurthi is a prescribed text for Drama and Theatre for GCE O/L national curriculum.
Vikurthi or Distortion is an original play and is a satirical exposure of hapless generation of youth whose lives were dominated by incessant struggle between the parents’ aspirations and the youth’s abilities and preferences. The play is based on the youth and how their lives are dominated by their parents’ aspirations and self-capabilities. This play focuses to show the struggles faced by the youth, where peer-pressure takes a toll on their lives regardless of their aptitudes.
Vikrthi was first performed in 1982 in Colombo and more than 1500 shows were performed in Sri Lanka, India and Australia in the last 36 years.
The cast features, Kaushalya Fernando, Prasananajith Abesuriya, Mayura Kanchana Perera, Geetha Alahakoon and more.
The show is organised by Jude Srimal and all seats are box planned and tickets available at the theatre.
