Sri Lanka bowling coach Saker linked with Warwickshire
View(s):English county Warwickshire is in talks with Sri Lanka’s bowling coach David Saker to appoint him as head coach after Jim Troughton was sacked as head coach following a review into their disappointing season.
Saker who lived near Birmingham when he was England’s bowling coach and has previously been linked with the role is a strong contender, cricinfo.com reported.
“It is also understood he has had contact with the club in recent weeks,” the website reported. Another former England bowling coach, Ottis Gibson, may well be another strong candidate. Former Sri Lanka head coach Paul Farbarce is currently the director of sports at the county.
Farbrace had led a review to Warwickshire’s season following a disappointing campaign where the club finished without a win in their five Bob Willis Trophy matches and failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the T20 Blast. Saker has worked as bowling coach for both England and Australia over the last ten years, before he took up the role with USA earlier last year prior to his role with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Saker is among several others who were hired by SLC as part of a major overhaul of the coaching structure last year after terminating the services of head coach Chandika Hathurusingha.
