SLC extends EoI deadline for England tour TV rights

Sky Sports and Sony are among the four television companies to show interest in buying the broadcasting rights of the rescheduled England’s Test tour of Sri Lanka when the deadline to show Expression of Interest (EoI) ended last Monday. However, the board has decided to extend it by a week to attract more bidders.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) sold its television rights to Sony Networks (Pvt) Ltd for the next three years but decided to sell the England tour separately as they were not satisfied with the amount offered for the Test match series.

England will play two Test matches against Sri Lanka, hopefully in January – the first international series to be played in the island after England abandoned their tour and left in March following the COVID outbreak in the country.

Both matches are scheduled to be played at Galle due to logistical reasons under ‘new normal’ status caused by the global health crisis. Currently cricket is being played globally in a biosecure bubble.
