Cabinet approves construction of new faculties at State Unis
View(s):Approval for the construction of three buildings required for state universities was approved by the Cabinet this week. The cost for the three buildings is more than Rs. three billion.
Among the buildings are the construction of the Sabaragamuwa University medical faculty and the faculty of technology.
The Sri Lankan Government has signed an agreement with the Saudi Development Fund to obtain a loan of 187.5 million Saudi Riyals to establish the Sabaragamuwa University medical faculty.
Accordingly, competitive bids had been invited for the selection of a consulting firm for the establishment of the medical faculty.
On the recommendation of the Cabinet appointed consultants procurement committee, the Cabinet approved the proposal presented by the Education Minister to award this contract to the DAR Engineering Company of Saudi Arabia for 5.37 million Saudi Riyals.
The Cabinet also approved to appoint a standing procurement committee to award a contract to International Constructions Consortium (Pvt) Ltd for USD 3.01 million and Rs 1,507.24 million to construct the Sabaragamuwa University faculty of technology building.
Construction of this building would be implemented under the Science and Technology Human Resources Development Project funded by the Asian Development Fund.
The contract for the construction of the allied health faculty at the Ruhunu University was the third project approved by the Cabinet this week. The implementation of this project was approved by the former government. The contract was awarded to Sathuta Builders Pvt. Ltd for Rs. 1,501.73 million.
