Management and Science Institute Colombo – Empowering the resilience of Sri Lankan Tourism Webinar 2020 was organised successfully via Online Platform Microsoft Teams and cast to the audience via Official MSI Facebook page on the last Monday, 23rd of November 2020!

Prospective Students had the opportunity to observe virtually and develop new ideas on the current situation of the tourism industry.  From the viewpoint of the students, several creative concepts were introduced, which could be applied to uplift the industry. They received tremendous support from the staff of the faculty. Mr Suranga Tennakoon arranged this event as the final semester project for the students.

All the lecturers and students joined in the campus.  Microsoft teams platform was also arranged for those who were not able to join the webinar because of the current pandemic situation.

Rachel Christina was the moderator, and Rozanne Shana, Sinthuja Ravindran, Benura Jayathilake and Samadhi Pathirana were the four panellists who were invited and participated as the panel. They are students who are doing their Diploma course in Hospitality and Tourism Management at MSI.

The key elements of the tourism industry were discussed during the panel discussion. It should be considered to promote and restore the travel industry to the higher stage where it was before the Easter attacks.  Even in this dreadful situation, the hospitality and travel sector has been highlighted as a chosen discipline for students to pursue their education.

It was also stressed how these conditions could be used in a constructive way to flourish in this sector. Tourism is an opportunity to create jobs. It was recommended to travel domestically and to promote Sri Lanka as a tourist destination.  The empowerment of women should be implemented in the tourism industry was also discussed.  The significant health and safety sector, which provides low cost of services, but higher standards is the blessing we have in our country and a message from MSI student to the industry.

The panel also answered questions raised by the audience. The students of MSI also managed the technical and marketing team for this event. The programme was supported mainly by the senior student of MSI, Mr Premod Fernando.

As the students of MSI, they believe that this panel discussion will reach the significant ends and all the stakeholders who rely on the tourism industry to get more information and innovative ideas that never bloomed up in their minds because of the current situation.
