Fostering global citizenship towards new normal
View(s):Faculty of Management Studies, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka proudly steered their 5th Interdisciplinary Conference of Management Researchers (ICMR)-2020 on 26th November 2020 capturing the theme “Fostering global citizenship towards new normal” with the collaboration of Emerald Publishing.
Being situated 160 km away from the capital city of the country, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka never gives up its quality of conducting academic, research and extracurricular activities as a young state university. The Faculty of Management Studies, being awarded as an ‘A’ graded faculty, has been carrying out its duties and responsibilities with the highest number of student population.
This time, ICMR-2020 has been organised for the 5th consecutive year and proudly collaborated with Emerald Publishing as the academic partner and remarked a milestone of the faculty history. Emerald Publishing has extended their supportive hands to the research conference in many aspects, including opening opportunities for best manuscripts to be published in their renowned journals.
ICMR-2020 was organised on a virtual platform where over 100 local and international manuscripts were received on reviewers’ tables. Reviewers’ rigorous review allowed 44 manuscripts for the publication and finally, authors presented their work at 6 broad subject areas.
Local and international keynote speakers augmented the value and quality to the conference theme of ICMR-2020 by delivering speeches online. Professor MSM Aslam (Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka), Professor Li-Hsin Chen (National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism, Taiwan), Professor Steven Krauss (University Putra Malaysia) and Professor Rotem Shneor (University of Agder, Norway) appeared as esteemed keynote speakers.
Ms Sangeeta Menon, Publishing Relationship Manager of Emerald Publishing too, added insights to the conference by conducting a session on publishing quality research work.
Professor Udaya Rathnayake, Vice Chancellor, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, graced the inaugural session of the conference as the chief guest. He embraced the efforts of the faculty and mentioned that the research conference was a timely need. He didn’t forget to highlight the importance of research by adding the quote “Research is to see what everybody else has seen and to think what nobody hasn’t thought”.
Professor Athula Gnanapala, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies stated objectives of the conference whilst welcoming the gathering. Creating and promoting a research culture in the new normal, promoting a research based new economy and laying the foundation stone to uplift the faculty status internationally were stated as a few objectives.
Dr. Vilasini De Silva, Chairperson, ICMR-2020, stated that organising such an international research conference was purely based on quality work of dedicated researchers and strong commitment of the faculty. She further stressed that high-quality research work can open thousands of avenues for any citizen to boost the economy in challenging conditions.
