Vaas believes young Madushanka is a quick learner
View(s):Former Sri Lankan fast bowler Chaminda Vaas believes that emerging left-arm fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka has the potential of becoming a quality fast bowler in the future. Vaas, who has seen Madushanka’s development from close quarters, believes that he has the dedication and the commitment that a fast bowler requires to be successful in international cricket.
Noting that Madushanka will have to learn to bowl against international players, Vaas feels the Lankan Premier League (LPL) will be an ideal learning curve for the youngster. Vaas noted the experience he gains from the LPL will be vital as he moves forward in his career.
Vaas stressed that his workload must be closely monitored to minimise the risk of frequent injuries. The former fast bowler underlined the need of being patient when working with youngsters such as Madushanka, as he is still learning the art of fast bowling.
“When he started training he had raw pace and I had to monitor his bowling action starting from his run-up. But he has improved a great deal over the last year. As his mentor it gives me great satisfaction to see him progress,” Vaas explained.
He referred to Madushanka as a quick learner and predicted the 20-year-old will have a long and a successful career ahead of him, if he is properly looked after by the coaches and the management. Vaas had some words of encouragement for youngsters.
“Sri Lanka cricket has given a great opportunity for the youngsters to prosper. The LPL gives them the confidence to perform at the highest level alongside the foreign players. At the same time the youngsters should take this as an opportunity to showcase their talents and capabilities on the international stage,” he said.
