Fifteen academics from Sri Lanka ranked among top two percent of scientists
View(s):A total of 15 academics from Sri Lanka have been ranked among the top two percent of scientists around the world, in a recent global study conducted by Stanford University in the US.
The paper from Stanford University, was published in the journal PLoS Biology on October 8 2020. This study has classified all scientists based on their career-long citation impact until the end of 2019. Citation impact is a measure of the number of times the work of a researcher (journal, article or book) is cited by other authors and articles.
Five of the top ranking researchers were from the University of Peradeniya: Professor Shanthi Mendis, Professor Nimal Senanayake, Professor C. B. Dissanayake, Professor A. M. Kularatne and Professor Nimal A. Suraweera.
Three were from the University of Colombo – Kamini Mendis, S. Rajapakse and W. D. Ratnasooriya – two were from the University of Kelaniya – Nilantha de Silva and J. Hithanadura – and one was from the University of Moratuwa – Dias Priyantha.
Moreover, three more researchers from the International Water Management Institute – S. Uhlenbrook, Vladimir Smakhtin and Geoff Kite – and one from the Institute of Fundamental Studies in Sri Lanka – Bandara Jayasundera – had been ranked among the top two per cent of scientists around the world. - L.
