The Northern Province Education Department spent Rs 150,000 for an audit committee to probe complaints against a school principal over alleged financial irregularities which resulted in sending a mere warning letter.

The department appointed the audit committee early this year following several complaints lodged to the department against the principal of a school in the Jaffna Education zone.

The audit committee found the principal guilty of financial irregularities after probing the complaints, and recommended to the Provincial Ministry that it could be considered an offence under the first schedule of the Establishment Code of the department.

However, the department re-appointed him as the school principal after sending a mere warning letter over the past irregularities for which he was found guilty by the audit committee. - N.Lohathayalan
