Rotary young leaders win key youth awards
View(s):Rotary driving the key projects of Covid-19 in the country that has reached over a 1.5 million households on the project ‘Stop the Spread’ was recognized for the leadership on the youth side at Young Generation awards 2020 organized by Women in Management( WIM) and National Youth Council. The event was graced by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Hon Namal Rajapakse.
The key invitees include Chairman Youth Services Council Kanishka Suranimala and Coca Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Limited Managing Director MayankArora and the WIM Chairperson SulochanaSegera.
District Interact Representative Rahul Fernandez won the Best Prefect award for Boys and District Rotaract Representative Kasun Segera won for Best youth Media personality which highlighted their area of specialization. The Rotary District Youth Chairman Dr Rohantha Athukorala said ‘ The Leadership that the two leaders have demonstrated this year at Rotary projects was outstanding. Young Rahul together with the Director Stop the Spread Haani Raheem has driven communication among youth with the 6000 Interactors across the country for a new culture of the new normal where the sponsorship value exceeds 1.5 billion rupees.
The Share of voice they have generated on media to build the new culture has helped the country curtail stop the spread which has so far claimed 160 lives and over 160,000 infected so far in the country said Dr. Athukorala.
Kasun Segera on the other hand gives leadership to almost 7200 Rotaractors across the country and given amazing leadership to make 60 key projects implemented on combating the Covid-19 virus. One of the projects Track the Spread has been accepted by the Ministry of Health as a innovative project that can be used on curtailing the virus. It is right now at test market stage voiced Dr Athukorala.
The District Rotary Governor Ajith Weerasinghe commenter both leaders and said today we need leaders who work on the premise of ‘ Service above self’ which is the motto of Rotary globally. I am proud to say that we in Rotary identified civil support required to curtail the Covid-19 virus as early as April last year and made this the ‘ District Project’ which was a first in the world of Rotary.
