School cricket to go digital
View(s):Sri Lanka School Cricket Association (SLSCA) is on the verge of making arrangements to create a digital web portal which will include data and statistics of its registered players. The project, which will kick-start this month, has been initiated by SLSCA with the assistance of a private firm specialised in creating software and digital contents, according to sources.
Creating the backend to upload players’ data has reached its final stage according to SLSCA sources and beginning from mid-January the school cricket governing body will allow feeding information and statistics of players. To make the operation more viable, SLSCA will officially permit the respective Masters-in-Charge of each school to upload data and information of the registered players. The data uploading process is expected continue each year while the existing profiles of already registered players will be updated after each match.
“The feeding and updating of information will be the responsibility of the Masters-in-Charge of each school team. They should comply duly by entering information and data of all players,” a top official of SLSCA stated.
Soon after the process of registering the players is completed for the upcoming season, the SLSCA intends to introduce a digital process to replace the existing team cards and player registration cards.
“The ultimate goal of this project is to maintain database beginning from the Under-13 age category and to continue it up to the Under-19s, where profiles of each player will be easily available and accessible to anyone,” the official added.
The web portal will display the whole profile of the player, which will be updated after progressing from the junior category inclusive of statistical information such as averages in batting, bowling, runs, wickets and the number of games played during a season.
Despite possessing a history of over a 100 years, data, statistics and information on school cricket has been maintained by interested individuals and a handful of historians. A private firm initiated the process of creating a website dedicated to school cricket with data and information about 10 years ago, and so far it is known to be the only digital platform existing on school cricket.
