The Education Ministry will make arrangements to distribute 97,000 tabs among 1,401 national and provincial schools soon,  a Ministry official said.

The proposed project which was initiated by the former Government, had been delayed by almost a year for many reasons. The Ministry had planned to give priority to schools in rural areas.

Under the plan, the tabs would be distributed to students between grades six and eleven and the Ministry planned to distribute either 40, 80 or 120 tabs to each school, depending on the student numbers.

The goal was to teach science, Maths, English through the tabs and the content had been developed for these subjects. Separate guidelines had been prepared on the teaching methods, and the tabs cannot  removed from the school premises.

Discussions are underway with the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission and service providers to provide a package for internet facilities to be used free of charge during school hours.
