School textbooks not distributed properly for this year, says CTU

View(s):

Although schools reopened last week on January 11, the school text books have not been distributed properly to school children, the Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) said last week.

Several parents had complained that their children had not received text books on many subjects including science and history, CTU General Secretary Joseph Stalin said.

However the Education Ministry website quoted Education Minister G. L. Peiris to have said the text books for children from grades one to 11 in all subjects had been dispatched to schools.

It also said those who had not received their text books could download the books from the official website of the Education Publication Department. Mr Stalin said this is a way of making parents buy text books from Government bookshops. -CC
