Anika, Janali book berth to final
Anika Seneviratne and Janali Manamperi will meet in the women’s finals of the 105th National Tennis Championships today after they eased to victory in their respective semi-final ties played yesterday at the SLTA Tennis Courts.
Top seed Anika underwent some anxious moments before brushing off the challenge of third seeded Savini Jayasuriya while Janali had little difficulty in overcoming unseeded Hasali Gajaba.
In the men’s doubles events saw the pairs of Dhilvan Herath/Archana Lokuge. Nishendran Sivendran/Michael Sivaguna and Chathurya Nilaweera/Thehan Wijemanne advance to the semi-finals after winning their quarter-final encounters.
Meanwhile, defending champions and top seeded player Sharmal Dissanayake will be aiming to retain the men’s singles title which will be the fifth successive time that he will be winning and he will be pitted against second seed Yasitha de Silva in the battle for supremacy of the singles title which is scheduled to be worked off today along with the women’s singles final which will be played concurrently.
