The 5th RAISE Youth Conference and Quiz Competition to be held on a Virtual Platform
View(s):UTO EduConsult is scheduled to host the 5th RAISE Conference on the 10th and 11th of February 2021, in partnership with the British Council, Sri Lanka.
Previous conferences have focused on various issues that have impacted our youth, including Drug Abuse, the ills of Social Media, and the adverse impact of Peer Pressure on youth, amongst others. These events have witnessed a plethora of erudite speakers who have enlightened the delegates attending the event with their insights on these complex issues. This year’s event will be held on a Virtual Platform for the first time, which has enabled the event organisers to attract speakers from across the world, including Canada, the UK, right across to Australia.
The main focus of this year’s event will be the subject of Education itself, given the transformation that has occurred in delivery methods, conduct of examinations and more.
The impact of these changes will be examined in great detail, not just in a physical sense but also on the psyche of those involved – not just on students, but on teachers and even parents. The event, themed “Transition, Transform, Transcend”, will also feature a discussion by a panel of youth for the very first time, deliberating on a wide cross-section of subjects. Whilst the recent pandemic has caused disruption at so many levels, it has also witnessed the emergence of a new class of entrepreneur. Young Entrepreneurship is the subject of a panel discussion which would examine the underlying factors that acted as a catalyst in this process, as well as inspiring stories from experienced advocates.
The Futsal Tournament, which has been an integral part of RAISE and has featured circa 30 teams in the past, would not be held soon after the Conference. Whilst it is hoped that a more enabling environment may permit the conduct of the event later in the year, a Quiz competition has been introduced for the very first time, with many schools already confirming their attendance.
The initial rounds of the Quiz competition will take place immediately prior to the Conference with the Finals scheduled as an apt climax to almost a week of activity. It is fervently hoped that events such as this would at least play some part in reviving the competitive spirit of the youth at a time when they have been largely deprived of competition on the sporting fields.
While the past year focused mainly on academics – given the chaos the pandemic threw the system into – students have greatly missed the broader spectrum of challenges and excitement that extra-curricular provides. UTO EduConsult hopes to spark the ambition that inspires students apart from the classroom by commencing the year with such an event.
