The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted operations for many sectors including the education sector.

The sudden pandemic has forced many institutions to reinvent themselves within the shortest span of time. The greatest challenge in this process of reinvention is to ensure all parties; education leaders, educators, supports services and most importantly students are aligned toward the same direction of education excellence. The University of Cyberjaya (UoC) has always encouraged the practice of innovation amongst its staff force. Hence, the sudden pandemic became a platform for its staff to openly explore and introduce dynamic ways of teaching and learning for its students online.

Training and sharing sessions were held frequently to ensure especially the lecturers were immediately able to ‘plug and play’ where online classes were concerned.

Like all innovation, there were multiple challenges faced by both the academicians and students in the early stages of online learning. The topmost of challenges faced by academicians included navigating in a new digital learning management system whilst maintaining the quality of teaching. Methods which traditionally worked for years in face-to-face classes were simply not applicable online.

However, many digital alternatives were already available online, waiting to be tapped by educators. This helped the academicians of UoC to quickly reinvent their teaching methodology and offer education services with limited disruption.

Digital teaching and learning may seem like a very challenging tasks for many educators. However, with the right set of strategies and tactics, it is possible to create a highly immersive learning experience among young students who are also born as digital natives. Thanks to high growth in mobile consumption, students are now able to learn on the go, using their smart devices.

Educators who are aware of this opportunity can seamlessly integrate teaching and learning activities into mobile format. Thus, making learning an undisrupted process for students at large.

The 3-hour webinar will feature an introduction to several digital learning platforms followed by a range of tips and tricks which can be employed to make online class engagement more effective. Among others, participants will also be exposed to interactive cross-platform tools which can be useful to engage online learners to participate actively in class activities. The session will also include smart ways to optimize social media and messaging applications as part of digital teaching and learning. In a nutshell, participants will gain new insights on how to make their digital classes more engaging and exciting for their students.

These strategies have proven to be effective for UoC as it enables the university to maintain strong communication while strengthening its relationship with the students.
