Jaffna University students placed under quarantine
View(s):Sixty seven students at the Jaffna University have been placed under quarantine after five students tested positive for COVID-19 this week, Northern Province Health Director A. Ketheeswaran said.
Dr. Ketheeswaran told the Education Times that PCR tests were conducted on 148 students and five students were found positive.
“The five COVID positive students are from the Eastern province. However, as these students were in the university during the past two weeks, their close contacts are students coming for lectures from various parts of the country. Therefore the 67 students will be quarantined within the university premises and confined to their hostel rooms,” he said.
Dr. Ketheeswaran also said the 67 students had been instructed to refrain from attending lectures and visiting canteens and study rooms.
“The area Medical Officer of Health and Public Health Inspectors are frequently visiting the university premises to ensure the quarantine process is carried out smoothly and to provide any medical assistance. The students will be quarantined for two weeks and will be allowed to continue their studies only after the second PCR tests,” he said.
